Committees

*Agriculture*

The objective of the agriculture committee is to promote, educate and support agricultural development as the base on which the Sutton community is established and on which it continues to thrive. Goals include recruiting Ag-related and value added agriculture industries to locate in our area.  The committee co-sponsors several forums, seminars and meetings that Ag producers and Ag-related businesses are invited to attend.

They also work with the Upper Big Blue Natural Resources District and Clay County Extension Service, sponsor annual appreciation events for farm families in March during National Agricultural Week, sponsor Ag-related tours open to Ag producers and businesses and sponsor trophies for the 4-H and FFA youth at the Clay County Fair each year.

*Ambassadors & Community Awareness *

Ambassadors sub-committee are the public relations arm of the organization, promoting goodwill in the community.  The Ambassadors’ goals are to welcome and present first dollar of profit to new chamber member businesses, provide ribbon cuttings, as well as recognize anniversaries and expanded or remodeled chamber member’s businesses.  Work closely with NCIP Ambassadors Southeast Region Office in York, NE.

The Community Awareness sub-committee contacts prospective members in the Sutton area for membership and maintains a working relationship with members, new businesses and area communities.

Goals include activating an aggressive group of members and encouraging contact of prospective members by one who has personal association.

Community Awareness works with other committees to unite the community with advertising and marketing projects, creating an “image” for Sutton.

Developing an Enterpreneurial Culture (D.E.C.) and Industrial Recruitment*

D.E.C. sub-committee will work to encourage new Sutton Area start-up businesses, providing resources and assistance as well as networking opportunities with existing businesses and community leaders.

The industrial recruitment sub-committee works to grow the economy by attracting new industries to the Sutton area and supporting industry expansion.

*Dug Out Days, Publicity and Tourism*

The Dug Out Days sub-committee will organize Sutton’s annual festival event.  The publicity and tourism sub-committee works to create awareness and promote publicity and tourism in Sutton area.

Their goals are to keep area news media informed on the happenings with chamber and community, sponsor efforts to promote city-wide events, assist the Ag committee in recognizing agriculture during National Agriculture Week, promote community events that will attract more people to the community, assist in improving the community, web site.                                                     

*Education and Sutton Area Leadership Tomorrow*

The education sub-committee provides SAC support to our education systems.  The leadership tomorrow sub-committee promotes community leadership and is responsible for selecting and facilitating Leadership Tomorrow classes throughout the year.

*Government Affairs*

The governmental affairs committee works with the Nebraska State Chamber of Commerce and members of the State Legislature on issues relating to the business and private population.  The committee sponsors several legislative forums throughout the year, giving area residents the opportunity to interface with their elected officials.

*Retail and Christmas Light Celebration*

The retail committee acts as the catalyst that strengthens the business sector – promoting and marketing the Sutton business community by representing all business entities to improve the business climate.

This group communicates with businesses to promote the small town service and unique shops available in the Sutton area.  Encourage unified store hours to meet consumer, advertise collectively with area media to attract shoppers and help pursue and continue the improvement plans for the downtown business area.

The committee sponsors promotional events during the year including Christmas Light Celebration (first Monday night of December) and various holiday happenings between Thanksgiving and Christmas.

In order to make each and every year successful for the Sutton Area Chamber of Commerce, we welcome and encourage your participation!
